Documenting the Complexities of Complex Life on Earth
Eurkarya is one of three domains of life on Earth encompassing all plants, fungi, and animals and extending back 2 billion years through the Proterozoic Eon of Earth’s history. But tracing their evolution has been difficult because for much of that time, they were microscopic. Indeed, the period of 1.8 billion to 800 million years ago has been labeled the “Boring Billion” because life was so simple and static based on what can be determined by Earth’s rock record.
