Zimbabwe’s Mtorolite

WHAT TO CUT

Mtorolite is a chrome chalcedony that comes from a small mining village of Mtoroshanga, Zimbabwe. This Chalcedony is colored by chromium, giving it that rich gemmy emerald coloring. Not all of Mtorolite has the same appearance. Some will be transparent solid emerald green, while other variations might tend to be cloudy, and some will even look like moss agate.

When choosing rough to buy, and you are looking to make solid colored cabs, it’s fairly easy to pick out pieces you see have larger areas of solid coloring. However be advised, this particular material can tend to be very riddled with drusy vugs throughout.
