A native of Tennessee, Bob Farrar is a writer and a longtime collector of minerals, fossils, and gemstones, and has traveled extensively in pursuit of the hobby. He is active in several Maryland clubs and is a dealer at area shows. He holds a Ph.D. in entomology and is retired from the USDA in Beltsville, MD.

Morocco is justifiably famous for its cobalt, copper, lead, and silver minerals, for example, as well as fossils of dinosaurs, sharks, trilobites, and many other ancient creatures. People have been prospecting in Morocco for many years, so one might think that most mineral and fossil sites would be well known. However, major new finds of both fossils and minerals continue to be made.
