Hollywood actor Stanley Tucci and his British wife, Felicity Blunt, share two of their family’s favourite dishes
Shepherd’s pie
This was a Blunt family favourite when I was growing up. When I moved to the US, it became a favourite British import. I make the mashed potatoes with olive oil, but if you want a richer mash, substitute with butter and milk. Serve with peas on the side, if you like
Serves 6-8 YOU WILL NEED For the filling
· 3 tbsp olive oil
· 2 medium red onions, coarsely chopped
· 4 cloves garlic, sliced
· 4 carrots, peeled and chopped
· 3 celery stalks, coarsely chopped
· 900g good quality minced lamb
· 3 anchovies
· Leaves from 2 sprigs fresh thyme, chopped
· Leaves from 1 sprig fresh rosemary, chopped
· 240ml red wine
· 400g can chopped tomatoes
· 355ml chicken stock
