PODCAST by SARAH SHANNON
Movers & Shakers
Six friends have gathered in a Notting Hill pub to discuss what they all have in common – Parkinson’s disease. The six include familiar names (right): former Newsnight inquisitor (and Saga columnist) Jeremy Paxman, ex-BBC technology correspondent Rory Cellan-Jones, retired high court judge Sir Nicholas Mostyn, Vicar of Dibley co-writer Paul Mayhew-Archer, ex-BBC political expert Mark Mardell and BBC Working Lunch presenter Gillian Lacey-Solymar.
Their meetings began in private, but it struck this outgoing bunch that other people living with Parkinson’s might benefit from hearing their discussions. These range from receiving the diagnoses to frank revelations about their symptoms and a hilarious flashing incident on board a train. It’s uplifting to hear the camaraderie among the friends who have all faced dark moments but soldier on together. Some podcasts with many voices become a noisy rabble, but this marvellous group has Sir Nicholas to rule over them, which he does with aplomb.
