The Expanse’s fifth season didn’t look promising. The crew of the Rocinante were in different corners of the solar system, denying us the show’s comforting “family” vibe. A patriotism-fuelled terrorist ranted about Earthers being evil – a comedown after last season’s awe-inspiring trip through a stargate. Throw in the mighty Avasarala robbed of her UN powers and exiled to the Moon, plus a plotline focusing on Naomi as she tries to connect with her long-lost son, and, well… yawn?
