➜ In just five short years, the status of a Jordan Peele film has gone from intriguing outlier (Get Out) to major talking point (Us) to full-blown cultural phenomenon.
For a comparable filmic trajectory, you have to go back to the glorious early run M Night Shyamalan enjoyed at the start of his career: the one that came out of the blocks sprinting with The Sixth Sense, hit its stride with Unbreakable and breasted the tape with Signs. (You could also cite Quentin Tarantino’s meteoric rise from Reservoir Dogs to Pulp Fiction, had not the second movie in his triptych, True Romance, been directed by somebody else.)
