Zoe Potrac
“I love how simple motifs like granny squares can be so versatile, so I was thrilled to participate in this challenge. I decided to give the squares on my cushion a diagonal slant. Working with neons appeals to my love of colour and, coincidentally, this bag is a perfect match for my favourite chair! That means this cushion is going to be a permanent fixture in my house.
I think the tassels make it playful, too – Ijust hope my kitten doesn’t get hold of them!”

“I’m a huge fan of granny squares and use them a lot in my designs, so I was thrilled to be invited to take part in the Hook to Hook granny square challenge!
I also love retro design and have a large collection of houseplants, so when the gorgeous neon yarn arrived I knew exactly what I wanted to make – afun and funky plant hanger for my spider plant! I hope you like it. It was a lot of fun to design and make.” Find Sam online at

Left to right: Zoe has designed her cushion so that the granny squares sit diagonally over the cushion pad – arrange them in a square following the Construction Diagram (see page 89), then fold the corners together; to finish, make tassels in the neon shades and sew one to each corner
