HOW DO I WORK STANDING STITCHES?
A fab turning chain alternative for stripes…
A standing stitch looks exactly like a standard stitch and the gap to the next stitch is neat and even. It’s made with a new length of yarn, starting at the height of the new row, without joining the yarn to the fabric first. It’s best used if you’re changing colour – for instance, if you’re creating stripes. I’ll show you how to make a standing treble stitch, but you can apply the methods I’ve outlined here to any of the standard crochet stitches. The technique is a bit fiddly to start with, so go slowly, be patient with yourself and practise several times if you need to.
