Hawkins was hired to build a second prehistoric park in New York City’s Central Park. He set up a workshop in the American park and spent almost three years building new models. One of these would have been a dinosaur walking on two legs. Tragically, however, a powerful and corrupt politician named “Boss” Tweed hated the project. Tweed sent thugs to break into Hawkins’ studio. They smashed his models and molds into pieces, and then threw the pieces into a lake. The Central Park dinosaur park was never built.
