MINDFULNESS FOR MEN
Find out how this modern take on meditation could help you ace your weight-loss goals
It’s used by the US military to strengthen mental resilience during combat, and by Team GB athletes to win more medals – and it could work for you, too. So what is mindfulness?
Essentially, it’s a simple form of meditation that helps you to press a mental pause button, allowing you to focus on what’s really important. As well as benefiting weight loss, studies have shown it can ease anxiety and stress, and even boost self-esteem. Here’s how to use the practice to rev-up your slimdown.
1 FIND YOUR FOCUS
Do your slimming plans stumble whenever life throws you a curveball? That’s prime mindfulness territory – it’s a great aid at boozy social events, or for swerving special offers at the supermarket. The idea is to pause, take a breath, and just be in the present moment. Then, in that calmer state, instead of auto-ordering another pint or buying a multipack of crisps, you’re more likely to make choices that align with your goals. Regular practice at home will help make getting mindful second nature, wherever you are. ‘It can be done in any spare moment, to get you refocused,’ says mindfulness expert Dana Zelicha.
