Packing serious processing power in a slinky design, Microsoft’s latest hybrid is both a luxury lifestyle gadget and a fine work PC

The Microsoft Surface Pro is a hybrid laptop institution. It was, and is, one of the few successful attempts to make a Windows PC that is also a tablet – and this eighth-generation version does not mess with the formula too much.
As in previous years we see design refinements and performance bumps in line with whatever Intel has done with its latest chipsets. However, the changes this year are significant for real-world use.
You have to pay for it, though. The Surface Pro 8 starts at £999, but a 128GB SSD won’t cut it, upgrades to the RAM and storage do not come cheap, and adding the keyboard and stylus costs £250, so the cheapest one you should actually consider will set you back well over a grand.
