Sonos was rumoured to be developing headphones for years. And when I say ‘years’ I mean many, many years. Its acquisition of the remnants of Scottish headphone brand RHA a few years back only added to the intrigue. Well, finally the rumours have become fact and the Sonos Ace over-ears are the long-gestated fruit of that labour.
The Ace cans come in the company’s trademark black and white variants, though the white isn’t a pure shade like the speakers –it’s distinctly off-white. That only adds to the comparisons with Sony’s WH-1000XM5s, which come in a similar colour. Given those are our No1 headphones of the last couple of years, they’re a natural reference point.
