BETA YOURSELF THE WEATHER
If you’re fed up of getting wet, cold or sunburnt, and occasionally all three at once, follow Craig Grannell’s tips and turn your phone into a pocket-based forecaster
THE BASICS
■ Find a good source
Meteorology is an inexact science: weather stations are sporadically located, and microclimates can mess up what algorithms expect to be happening between them. Some sources cope better than others, so keep tabs on which work best for your location: if what one says is too often wide of the mark, switch to another.
■ Use multiple apps
You might like the idea of a magical unicorn weather app that does everything well. The reality is you’re better off installing several, and using the best bits of each depending on context: one might be great for long-range outlooks and another for imminent rainfall and maps.
