It’s possible to be a Tesla owner without splashing out on an electric car that can make fart noises – thanks to the company’s clever home battery system.
In theory, Powerwall stores free solar energy during the day and tops it up from the grid with cheaper off-peak energy at night. In practice the British weather doesn’t always play ball, but if all goes to plan there’s capacity for seven days’ continuous supply in the event of a cut – or your direct debit bouncing. The 13.5kWh cell can be put on the floor or wall-mounted, and on a good day could cut your need for utility company dependence altogether… but for that to happen you also need a Tesla Solar Roof.
