Suncruiser Magazine Shuswap 2021 Back Issue

The Unforgettable Shuswap
The Shuswap has been captivating many walks of life for centuries. The region is where the ancestors of the Secwepemc First Nations first settled, it was the location of a popular fur-trading route, and Craigellachie is where the Canadian Pacific Railway completed its railroad in 1885 – firmly establishing the connection of British Columbia with the rest of Canada.
In present-day Shuswap – or the Shu as it’s often referred to – people from across Canada still come here to connect with the region. Strewn with freshwater lakes, the largest being Shuswap, the area is a hot bed for recreational boating, fishing, and many other outdoor activities - not to mention camping and enjoying any one of the fascinating resorts or cottage rentals. Is it a popular vacation spot? Yes. Is it easy to find an isolated anchorage to escape for days at a time? Absolutely.
The main attraction of the Shu is Shuswap Lake itself. When you first pull into this region it’s hard not to be mesmerized by its expanse of blue water. The lake is sculpted in the region as a backward “K” with four arms, each dotted with a series of communities – the most popular being Salmon Arm, Sorrento, Scotch Creek, and Seymour Arm. All are boating friendly with many access points to the lake – be it a launch ramp at a scenic park or any of the accommodating marinas.
When it comes to discovering the area, the pages of our 2021 SunCruiser-Shuswap edition highlight many quick references and guides to the area’s many destinations and attractions. For your convenience, the pages are filled with a series of detailed maps, listed services, water hazards, and even marked (and unmarked) water obstructions in precise detail – all devised to better plan and enjoy your adventure in the Shuswap to the fullest extent.
