CITY BREAKS
Calling all city slickers – here are the urban escapes to target in 2023

City breaks should stimulate the senses and offer a break from the norm, and nowhere does that better than Tokyo, a timely destination for 2023. In February Cirque du Soleil unveiled a new show, Alegría, in Tokyo. It will run until late June, and from July you’ll be able to catch it in the city of Osaka. Love a bit of anime? Make a beeline for Tokyo’s Ikebukuro neighbourhood – in March 2023 the world’s largest anime store, Animate, will open here.
For some sporting action, consider a visit to the Tokyo Dome City, which will emerge from a major facelift in March. The baseball stadium’s amenities will include a new food hall, shops and a spa, although our favourite feature will always be Thunder Dolphin, which you’ll find next to the stadium – this high-speed rollercoaster passes through the centre of a big wheel. It’s also worth noting that teamLab’s famous digital art museum, Borderless, closed in 2022, but don’t despair - the hi-tech art gallery will reopen in Tokyo’s Azabudai Hills area by the end of 2023.
