If provenance is important to you, then men’s fragrance brand Creed is something to get excited about. The story of the House of Creed began in 1760 when a pair of scented leather gloves was delivered to King George III. Founded by James Henry Creed, the company went on to become Queen Victoria’s official supplier and in 1854 it opened up in Paris under the patronage of Napoleon III. Suffice to say, Creed is proud of its heritage and the company has stayed in the family with Erwin, the seventh Creed generation, at the helm. Aventus was launched to celebrate its 250th anniversary and its scents were inspired by Napoleon, a man led by his passions. We did warn you history was important here. So, what do you get for £845? Well, says Creed: “Aventus opens with tantalising top notes of blackcurrant and Italian bergamot, blended with Calville Blanc apples and sparkling pineapple. A woody and heady centre is complemented with notes of roses, jasmine blossom and patchouli and a rich base of oak moss, ambergris and a touch of vanilla.” Put more simply, its scent type is fruity and musky; it’s an Eau de Parfum and comes in a 500ml bottle. £845, fenwick.co.uk
