TRIPLANETARY
Traversing the galaxy aboard a dry-wipe pen
Designer: Marc Miller | Publisher: Steve Jackson Games
Idon’t know what I’ll be doing in the year 2037, but going by the latest incarnation of this 1973 game, some of us are going to be careening around the solar system, looking for any opportunity to slingshot ourselves around whatever orbital objects we come across. Personally, I think it’s much more likely I’ll still be sat here trying to wrap my brain around the quickest means of navigating the entirety of Triplanetary’s enormous and primarily blank hex-board.
Indeed, let’s forget the limitless vastness of space for a moment and scale things back a touch to appreciate the enormity of Triplanetary’s depiction of our solar system. This vaguely accurate negative inversion of space stretches across the tabletop in stark brilliant white, awaiting exploration in the form of dry erase markers and simple chits, and at 33” by 45”, it’s enough to lose an average sized child in – along with several evening’s worth of your time.
