Teddy Bear Times  |  Issue 277
Naming a teddy bear is always a joy but it can take some time, especially if you own, or have made, numerous bears. Often a teddy bear artist will tell you that they don’t know what the bear’s name will be until the face is done. Then the gaze of each new bear will usually suggest a name. Of course it will also depend on the style of the bear and perhaps the color too.
I was gazing at the Strawberry moon recently. It was a beautiful shade of creamy yellow with a distinct pink tinge - like strawberries mixed into custard! - and it sat very low in the sky. Each new full moon has a name that tends to stem from ancient customs, folklore or life in general. The Harvest moon is an obvious one in autumn time. I was intrigued to see that August’s full moon will be a Sturgeon moon. This made me chuckle a little, as I envisaged a moon with chubby pouting lips. However, it is associated with prime fishing time for sturgeon. I wonder if there has ever been a teddy bear moon? If not, then I think that would be a good name for a moon, don’t you?
Goodness knows how many bear names have been featured in Teddy Bear Times & Friends over the years! But there always seems to be something new in every issue. That goes for teddy bear artists and collectors too. We love to see established artists on our pages, as well as those who are new to bear making and collecting.
If you have a system you use when naming your bears and would like to share it, please send an email to editor@teddybeartimes.com as it might help other readers who may be struggling to find an original or suitable name for a new creation or acquisition.
And if there is something ‘new’ you would like to see in the magazine, I would love to hear your suggestions for that too.
I hope you enjoy this latest issue - now it’s time to get to work on another one!
