I have always been afraid of heights. Vertigo is not a pleasant experience. So much so that at a certain age, around 20, I decided to confront this fear and learn to climb. Thus began a long relationship with mountains and, because of this experience, I feel I can depict them.
Since those early days I have visited mountain ranges all over the world and although I managed to suppress my fear of heights I never lost it. Most recently my travels have taken me to Nepal and the Himalayas, which has been a mindshattering experience. They made such an indelible impression on me that, back in the studio, I only had to shut my eyes and vivid images sprang to mind.
