992 Sport Classic: a missed opportunity?
Dear Sir,
I watched the 9WERKS TV video on YouTube of the new 992 Sport Classic, which also gave a great deal of insight into the specs of the next two ‘Heritage Design’ cars.
While I think it’s great Porsche has revived the Sport Classic name this time (why have we had to wait since 2009 for another one?), I can’t help but feel a little let down by it. Call me cynical, but I think for these cars to be considered truly special, they simply have to have a Motorsport engine. In this day and age where we’re clearly heading towards electrification of vehicles, a turbocharged engine just doesn’t excite the die-hard enthusiast in the way the Motorsport department’s 4.0-litre atmospheric engines do. That engine is a peach and will represent the zenith of Porsche engineering for the flat six for years to come, and if Porsche can put the engine in a rear-drive Speedster, why not in a Coupe with a ducktail?
