Though known as the ‘pop progression’, this sequence is found in various genres – generally when a song demands a driving, uplifting feel. Journey’s Don’t Stop Believin’, Aha’s Take On Me and Ed Sheeran’s Photograph are just a few examples. Toto’s Africa and Lady Gaga’s Pokerface start the progression on the third chord in the sequence (C#m in the key of E).
