JOSAYA WASONGA
The early groom catches the bride. That’s the first rule in a Samburu traditional wedding. The ceremony begins as early as 6am, with the morans escorting the groom and his best man to the bride’s manyatta, accompanied by a ram and ewe.
Bare-chested and shuka-clad, the morans are dressed to kill in colourful headdresses of beads and feathers, with red ochre braids that stretch to the middle of their backs, happy socks, sandals, and multihued beads tied around their waists and necks.
