The Ursa Minor J30 pop-up roof is the pivotal piece of my Jeep build that enabled my two-year expedition around the entire continent of Africa. The J30 has completely transformed my Wrangler Unlimited from an every-day 4x4 into an actual house with a comfortable and spacious double bed. My J30 is a little special, and also gives me interior living space that allows me to stand up and walk inside the back of the Jeep. After living more than two years straight in the J30, and covering 35,000 miles over some of the roughest roads in the world in West Africa, I feel well positioned to give my thoughts and opinions on this transformative replacement roof.

J30 OVERVIEW

The J30 is a bolt-on replacement hardtop for the 2007- 2018 JK Jeep Wrangler Unlimited (4-door). The factory hard or soft top is removed, and the J30 is installed in about thirty minutes using the original factory mounting points. At the end of the day, it’s a fiberglass roof, so it can easily be removed and the Jeep is again stock. Made of lightweight but durable fiberglass, weight increase is approximately 120 lbs. over the factory hard top, and in total six inches of height is added. The J30 does not create any wind noise; in fact, the driving cabin is now quieter due to the foam mattress acting as sound deadening. The minimal weight increase has not affected mileage.
