Active tuned mass modules mounted aft of the wheel well reduce harmonic vibration associated with HEMI’s cylinder deactivation feature.
The quest to squeeze a few additional miles out of a gallon of fuel is not new to the auto industry. If we look back to the 1950s, innovators like Arthur Warn, father of Warn Industries and the selectable locking hub, were boasting that his products would increase the fuel economy and range of our vehicles. When the EPA jumped on the bandwagon in the 1970s, its ambitious efficiency projections prompted automakers to reinvent themselves— or at least their power plants.
In recent years, Ram has answered the EPA’s call, investing heavily in technology to produce some of the most efficient powerful trucks in the genre. We joined Ram in Texas and Kentucky for a close look at their newest offering in the half-ton market. The 2019 Ram 1500 is more than a makeover of the previous model. It’s a full, ground-up redesign.
