FIRST ON THE FLY
Well-known salmon angler Ronnie Fraser landed this sparkling 9lb springer from the River Moriston estuary on 20 January, the first off the Ness system and also the first fly-caught salmon in Scotland this year.
With the water on the low side, Ronnie fished his favoured full floating speyline, a 10ft 5ips polyleader and a size 8 Roncade double, a fly of his design that has proved highly effective over the past few years.
Ronnie said, “Its classic colours of yellow, black and gold are deadly in clear water early in the season.”
On his previous cast, Ronnie had hooked and lost a fish as he retrieved line to re-cast.
