JOEL BERNSTEIN
THE LEGENDARY 1979 NO NUKES CONCERTS
LEGACY 10/10
HALFWAY through Bruce Springsteen’s new live film, The Legendary 1979 No Nukes Concerts, a fan passes him a homemade birthday cake. Never mind that he’s on stage at Madison Square Garden, or that he’s performing in front of a sold-out crowd, or that the event is intended to raise awareness fora very serious organisation called Musicians United for Safe Energy (MUSE). For a split second the baffled Springsteen looks more likea mischievous kid than a man about to turn 30, and on a whim he tosses the cake high into the air and into the crowd, then claims it hit Steve Van Zandt’s mum.
