IT was at a folk music conference in 2014 that Polly Paulusma first had a hunch about the writer Angela Carter. “I was down in the hotel bar, listening to all these amazing folk performers singing songs of murder and blood,” she remembers. “And then I was going up to my room and reading Angela Carter novels, with all their stories about murder and blood. I realised then that she was pinching massive tracts of these songs. But it took me a while to get hard evidence.”
