ACKLES UP
Thank you so much for the article about the magisterial David Ackles in the October 2025 [Take 343] issue of Uncut. I’ve been captivated by David Ackles’ albums since I first heard “Subway To The Country” way, way back. To my mind his songs are the epitome of Midwestern American Gothic and encapsulate the feel of the famous 1930 painting by Grant Wood.
I am so looking forward to Mark Brend’s forthcoming biography Down River and thus has been on order since I heard about it.
With any justice your article (and the book) will keep his name in the spotlight. You never know, we may hear “Montana Song” on the radio, though I won’t hold my breath! Thank you once again for being one of the very best music magazines out there – articles on Popol Vuh and David Ackles in the same issue! Incredible stuff.
