A unique example of Emile Gallé’s glasswork created as a special piece features in the 20th century decorative art sale held by Gros & Delettrez at Drouot on March 8.
The 11½in (29cm) high piece in the form of an elaborate footed cup shaped as a dragon is made from blown and moulded glass with enamelled faience elements. It is monogrammed EG with the Cross of Lorraine and has the artist’s signature Emile Gallé Exp 1900, indicating that it was created as a special piece to be shown at the Exposition Universelle in Paris in that year.
