5000m WALK

TOM BOSWORTH was one of the few athletes last weekend who had secured selection for Brazil even before warming up and, competing over one quarter of the distance he will contest in Rio, he took the British title with 19:13.56 behind Australian guest competitor Dane Bird-Smith (19:08.76).
Callum Wilkinson finished third in this non-trial event with a PB of 19:54.47. Dominic King, who is also heading to Rio – in his case for the 50km – was disqualified.
Bosworth, the British record-holder at this distance with 18:54.18, said: “I couldn’t deliver another British record today, but that is because I am working my socks off at the moment in really heavy training. I’ve already qualified for Rio so it’s about preparing for that.
