Meet Aja Barber, the woman who isn’t afraid to take on the ‘taboo’ issues. Sustainability, feminism, politics, body positivity, inclusivity and the Black Lives Matter movement – she has written about it all, and speaks so much sense while she does. While she is American-born, Aja currently lives in London, and describes herself as someone who ‘once loved fashion but fashion at its best is sustainable and inclusive’. Aja believes that the two are intrinsically connected, because if you care about intersectional feminism, you should also care about where your clothes come, who makes them and the wage they receive for doing so.
Her Instagram feed is a fantastic place to inspire your own ethical habits – she posts images of her second-hand outfit choices making her feelings about fast fashion crystal clear, alongside short and snappy quotes and thought-provoking statements. “What should clothes cost?”, “I hate flying” and “How is climate change and patriarchy connected?” are just a few examples. In fact, it’s hard not to go on her feed and wonder if you could be doing more. She has a Patreon page (patreon.com/AjaBarber) where you can access some of her more in-depth written pieces, too.
