Bizarrely, for someone who looks around and sees the devastation that humans are causing to the planet and each other due to greed, egos fuelled by mass consumption, and the wish to always be ‘more’, I have a very positive outlook for the future.
We look back on the lynching of black people in America, slavery, the creation of human zoos for the mentally ill, and even recent practices, such as electrocuting mental health patients and treating anything other than hetro-norm as mentally ill and abhorrent – we wonder, how on Earth did our forefathers stand by to watch these disgusting, but common-place practices. I predict that our grandchildren will look at some of the common practices of our generation, and think ‘how on earth could they stand by and let this happen?’. And one of these practices? The intensive, factory farming of non-human animals.
