TIMBE R-CLAD BARN CONVERSION
Using Brimstone poplar timber cladding helped these self builders to create the sustainable eco home they were after
The Smiths’ knew buying their tin clad barn in Devon as a conversion project was a risky move, as the 17 acre site had previously been declined planning permission. But luck was on their side, as their plans for transforming the redundant agricultural building into an eco home came through.
Work on site started in 2021, at a time when the Pandemic was causing problems with spiralling material costs, but the couple weren’t put off. “Needless to say we went slightly over budget ,” say the Smiths. The barn was stripped back and rebuilt . The project took 54 weeks from breaking ground to moving in. “It was hard work but we’re really pleased with the result ,” says Mrs Smith.
