Changes to heat pumps under PD
The Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government (MHCLG) has put in place changes to the current guidelines for the installation of heat pumps under permitted development (PD). From early 2025, as part of the government’s Warm Homes Plan, heat pumps can now be installed within one metre of the property boundary and the size limit for the external unit will increase from 0.6m 3 to 1.5m 3 . Noise restrictions are also to be relaxed in a move to promote cleaner forms of heating.
