Camping  |  April 2020
It’s award season once again, but not for us the red carpets, champers and swanky outfits of Hollywood. Instead we’ve donned our waterproofs, packed a flask of tea and headed out to the campsite in our quest to find the best of the best, the new tents that have made the biggest impression over the last 12 months and the ones we think will make a huge improvement to your camping life this year.
Choosing between all the great gear out there is always a difficult task, but some do stand out from the rest. As ever, we take into account value for money, innovation, versatility and good old-fashioned usefulness. Sometimes it just comes down to what has the X-factor that sets it apart from everything else.
It’s always interesting to look at the trends. A few years ago, Coleman won our Innovation of the Year award for their BlackOut bedrooms – and this year all the major manufacturers are offering special darkened sleeping compartments in their tents. We’ve noticed a huge amount of innovation this year – and I wonder if all those new ideas will also become standard features in a couple of years.
This year the top tent prizes have been shared among several different manufacturers, which suggests that quality across the board has never been higher. And that has to be great news for you, the camper.
