Classic & Vintage Commercials  |  CVC September 2013
Without wishing to state the completely obvious and making myself look stupid – at least, more stupid than usual – this issue is an ERF special, marking the 80th anniversary of the company’s formation. ERF played a hugely-important role in our truck-making past and, in fact, lasted longer than most of the others, albeit only by little more than badge-engineering in the final days. Every section of the classic press has recognized this important milestone and, on that basis, there isn’t anything new to say. That’s a fact, because no matter how you look at it, the scribes are serving up
old wine in a new bottle. But, I suppose, it’s that metaphorical bottle that counts and I kind of hope that we’re serving things up just a little differently. We’ve got a few restorations, a bit of history,
a selection of memories and loads of fascinating photographs – some dating back a fair while. Anyway, this is our take on ERF and its illustrious past. Oh, and that metaphorical bottle is a little
larger than you would normally expect to receive – this month’s issue is a rather generous 116 pages. I’m not going to get into that normal “hope you enjoy it, dear reader” tripe that most editors write because that goes without saying. But I hope you do, anyway. On the subject of photographs, we get loads sent in and if you don’t receive an acknowledgement or the pics don’t appear, please do not set the hounds on me because time and space do not permit me to publish them all or, indeed, write to say thanks. But everything is appreciated, believe me. One other thing – copyright is a very sensitive issue in the world of journalism and if you send a photo that you know is copyrighted, please let us know. If you are not sure then tell us that, also. It can save me getting an awful lot of tellings-off. And I would prefer not to be told off (although, as editor, it does come with the territory now and again).
