As Bing Crosby sang so wistfully: “It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas.”
Well, it certainly is here at DHW as desks are covered in tiny tinsel and fake snow along with little piles of green pipe cleaners and red felt… not to mention a pair of gloves (mine!) with their thumbs cut off.
Santa’s elves have had nothing on the DHW projects team as they sparkled with creativity to bring you a veritable feast of festive ideas.
We’ve got baubles in boxes (“Mind your feet. I’ve dropped one,” was a frequent cry) and everything from knitted stockings to more wreaths than a garden centre in December. Have some foam fun making a gingerbread house and test your polymer clay skills with a chocolate log.
We’ve got ideas for a traditional celebration as well as more contemporary scenes, and readers and writers share festive houses and rooms that they are rightfully proud of.
Sandra Harding tells us how she turned a house she shouldn’t have bought into a delightful shop, complete with grotto, and we visit a Christmas cottage where grey and white shades create a vintage, elegant look.
So whether you’re starting on a new room box or just adding a few cards to the mantelpiece in an existing house, we hope you’ll find inspiring ideas inside.
And if you get delayed or distracted at this busy time, just remember you’re one of a big family of miniaturists around the world, humming the song together, and making it look a lot like Christmas.
