Welcome to our May issue! We were delighted to catch up with this month’s cover star at the NAMM show – Emmanuelle Caplette was there as a judge to launch the 2016 Hit Like A Girl contest and so we took the opportunity to hear about her latest venture into online video tuition with her new website.
There’s no way of holding back Gerry Morgan, who is busy touring the world with James Bay right now. We checked out his extensive and unusual percussion collection, goat toe shakers included. Daniel Platzman is another busy drummer, out on the road with stadium fillers Imagine Dragons. Joe Vitale is a man with many strings to his bow – he’s played, produced and written songs with the likes of the Eagles, Van Morrison and Joe Walsh – he lets us in on his songwriting process. Rob Turner is the rhythmic creator behind electro-jazzers GoGo Penguin and he tells us about the excitement of their signing to Blue Note.
Last month we had the pleasure of being invited to Pearl’s 70th birthday celebrations where we had a sneak preview of all their new products. Find out more about those in our event review. And, as a bonus, you can be in with a chance of winning a Pearl Morgan Rose signature snare drum – simply turn to page 20 to find out more.
We’ve also got the first guest tuition page from UK session great Jeremy Stacey, more on confidence building from Kate Wilkinson, and all of our usual reviews, news and tuition. Enjoy!
