FACEBOOK’S PARENT COMPANY, Meta, has announced that Facebook Messenger will no longer be available as an app for Apple Watch. However, you’ll still be able to get Facebook Messenger notifications on your Watch when it’s paired — you just won’t be able to reply from your wrist. Other Watch apps that have been discontinued include Twitter, Instagram, and Slack. Apple has been promoting the fitness and health features of Apple Watch rather than standalone apps, but it is not clear whether this is a cause or an effect of messaging and other apps being discontinued. Commentator Mark Gurman says an iPhone–like app– centric experience “doesn’t always make sense on a watch.”
