MANY years ago a brass dog collar was dug up in an old drain at Stronmagachan in Glen Aray, a short distance above Inveraray. It was inscribed: Ensign Dougall Campbell, W F Regiment.
Captain Donald Campbell, killed near Detroit on July 4, 1763, by an American Indian who cut out and ate his heart.

Stronmagachan was an early and important site, said to have been occupied by the Campbells before they moved down to Inveraray, and later by the MacVicars, barons of Glen Aray.
