High Wycombe (Perth Airport) railway opens
First mooted in 1986 and first promised in 2012, the 8.6km, $1.86 billion High Wycombe (aka Perth Airport) railway opened for business on Sunday 9 October, some two years behind the initial schedule. For the day, travel on all Transperth services was free, with both Redcliffe and High Wycombe hosting a Community Open Day with many activities. David Whiteford was there to join the festivities and report for Railway Digest.

Streamliners 2022
In 2014, the North Carolina Transportation Museum, in the USA, staged a ‘festival’ of Streamliner locomotives. Visiting Australian locomotive driver, Bernie Baker thought “We could do this!” and do it he did, when in October 2016, ‘Streamliners 2016’ was successfully staged at Goulburn, NSW. A repeat was planned for 2021, but Covid restrictions saw it delayed until October this year. However, despite some operational challenges, the event proved to be worth waiting for, as Chris Walters reports.

The 2022 Australasian Rail Industry Awards
On Wednesday 14 September, over 700 members of the rail industry from Australia and New Zealand filled The Palladium at the Crown Towers in Melbourne to celebrate the 18 winners of the 2022 Australasian Rail Industry Awards.
