Conventional wisdom is that mammals survived and thrived after the Chicxulub asteroid impact 66 million years ago partly because of their “smarts.” Unusually large brains relative to body size (i.e., encephalization) saved them all. However, new research says it’s possible our mammal ancestors were a lot more stupid than previously thought.
