Per an article in Time magazine, green mining for certain minerals (nickel, cobalt, manganese, etc.) has established a foothold. But going green takes a toll, particularly when necessary minerals for battery production are mined from surface deposits. Such minerals have been discovered deep beneath the Pacific Ocean in an area dubbed the Clarion-Cipperton Zone.
