During Operation Enduring Freedom in late 2001, nearly all Afghan aircraft were destroyed by coalition forces. Since its rebuild, many new aircraft and helicopters have arrived, supplied by both US as Russian manufactures.

The very last landing of RF-4C 80-579 marked the end of an era of dedicated tactical reconnaissance jet operations by the Republic Of Korea Air Force.
