A BRIGHT FUTURE FOR FOWLING?
How fares wildfowling today? Better than you might think. Wildfowling, the dedicated pursuit of duck and geese (though waders may also form part of
the bag), holds a special place within shooting sports. It was ever thus. Right
from its earliest days, coastal wildfowling attracted a wide variety of people. Many shot to put something in the pot, while professional market gunners earned their livelihood from bagging large numbers of fowl. Then there were the gentlemen gunners of the Victorian era, who savoured wild sport in a wild landscape. The literature penned by some of these hardy early exponents of wildfowling includes some of the best works in the annals of shooting.
