Having lived in Africa my whole life, and travelled through the southern, eastern and south-western parts, I have become enchanted by my home continent. Reading the novels of Frederick Courteney Selous DSO, Sir Henry Rider Haggard, Stuart Cloete and other African explorers as a teenager sparked a fascination with adventure that I’ve never quite given up. As a South African, I have, unsurprisingly, seen many changes over the past few decades.sometimes for the worse, sometimes for the better, particularly since Nelson Mandela was released from Robben Island. Since the end of apartheid, travel from South Africa to the rest of the continent has been much easier. My wife and I have travelled to East Africa several times and have faith in continuing to do so. Here are some short anecdotes of my experiences, which illustrate some of the ways in which Africa has evolved:
