Vegan Wisdom

The Vegan Life of Buddhist monk Ven. Lama Shri Sadhu Dharmavira

Interview

The life of a monk is not for everyone — getting up at 3am is enough to put most people off, for a start. But Buddhist monk, Sadhu, explains how his practices can fit any lifestyle, that it is compassion that connects us all and that the backbone of his beliefs lie in veganism.

In the 60s I was a professional drummer (my previous life, as I call it) playing in well-known bands, recording and touring. The Beatles had gone to India and all the celebs of the time were getting into gurus and meditation. I picked up a copy of Time Out and saw an advert for a meditation class; I went along thinking ‘at least I can say I’ve tried it’. About Vegan Life

Welcome to our September issue! It’s hard to believe autumn is just round the corner – it’s still feeling pretty balmy out, which is great for making the most of being outdoors. This issue we’ve rounded up some delicious lunch recipes to take outside, where to pick up the best on-the-go vegan food and how to make the most of your lunch hour – crucial while the weather is still so favourable. We have so many inspiring vegan contributors this month. The Scary Dairy expose by Viva!, is a tough but essential read. Juliet Gellatley and her brave team work tirelessly to help share the truth about the brutal industry and campaign for change. Our artist of the month is Kate Louise Powell, an activist who is spreading the vegan message and provoking positive change through her powerful pieces of art. Be sure to catch our interview with the Ven. Alma Shri Sadhu Dharmavira – a vegan Buddhist monk who explains the importance of living compassionately and gives us an insight into his extraordinary life. Enjoy the issue!
