The Asia region is set to have a new international series on track this year, according to the recent announcement by engine manufacturer BRP-Rotax in Austria. The Rotax MAX Challenge Asia Trophy (RMCAT) will include six rounds throughout Southeast Asia, beginning at the Sepang International Karting Circuit in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia mid-May then going north for the second event to the Bira Kart Circuit near to Pattaya, Thailand several weeks later. With one round per month on the calendar up until the final edition in October, both of these conveniently located tracks will again host an additional round during the championship, with the remaining venues soon to be confirmed
The RMCAT will be organised by the Rotax Authorized Distributor for Malaysia and Brunei, Amprex Racing Services, who was also behind the success of the first RMC Asia Festival last December on the island of Langkawi in Malaysia. Continuing the further development of Rotax karting in the Southeast region, the RMCAT is a combined initiative between RMC Malaysia and RMC Thailand, to be included on the CIK- FIA Calendar 2023 with Asia Zone status. There are at least 20 nations situated within the Asia region so the series will now provide the chance for drivers and teams to experience a different level of Rotax racing. The promoters are expecting entries from international competitors as well, with the interest already growing since the announcement was made.
